2014 Taiwan Festival Events

This year we are partnering with YFG Shopping Centres, Taiwan Festival is set to grow bigger and better in 2014 by extending the program over to a week instead of two days and expanding across four shopping centres instead of a single venue.

Proudly supported by the Oversea Community Affairs Council Republic of China (Taiwan) as one of the largest overseas Taiwan Festival in the world, by the Queensland State Government as significant event of the Queensland Multicultural Week and by the Brisbane City Council as major multicultural festival, Taiwan Festival Week will set new record this year and continue to promote culture exchange between Taiwan and Australia, introducing Taiwanese traditional and popular culture to the Multicultural communities in Brisbane. This would increase community awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity and its benefits during the Queensland Multicultural Week as well as celebrating the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Festival) this year.

Event Details:

Dates:            Monday 1st of September to Saturday 6th of September

Venue:           Calamvale Central Shopping Centre, Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town, Sunnybank Plaza Shopping Centre, Sunny Park Shopping Centre, Calamvale Hotel, Calamvale Community College

Multiple Festivities:

As trialed in the 2012 and 2013 Taiwan Festival, subsidiary events such as the Taiwan Film Festival and Taiwan Beef Noodle Festival proved to be very successful promotion of the main Festivity. The 2014 Taiwan Festival Week will combine multiple festivities and create greater influences to the general public.

We are working with the YFG Shopping Centres to recreate the Taiwan Shopping Experience with Taiwan Shopping Festival right here at the Southside of Brisbane. Special sales promotions will happen across retailers during the first week of September and we aim to boost the shopping centres traffic over the Taiwan Festival Week to achieve a win-win outcome with our sponsors.

The 2012 Taiwan Film Festival was a sold out within a day of tickets sales. We plan to have two Taiwanese movies showing at the Sunnybank Plaza Cinema during Taiwan Festival Week at 6:30pm on the 3th and 5th of September 2014.

In 2014, we will have the Taiwan Pork Rice Festival instead of the Taiwanese Beef Noodle for a change of taste. Over the whole of August, we will be voting for the most popular Taiwanese Pork Rice in Brisbane and with the final cook-off happening during Taiwan Festival Week inviting 80 VIP guest to participate in the tasting and judging of the best Taiwanese Pork Rice in Brisbane.

As the Taiwan Festival week will lead to the traditional Chinese Moon Festival in the Luna Calendar, we will celebrate Taiwan Moon Festival during the week by involving all the schools in the immediate surrounding area with Moon Festival colouring and drawing competitions, sales of moon cakes at shopping centres. Various cultural workshops and performances will also happen during Taiwan Festival Week.

The Main Festival – Taiwan Festival will continue the theme of Taiwanese Night Market on Saturday night the 6th of September, this time weather proofed at the undercover car park of Calamvale Central Shopping Centre. Taiwanese snack foods will be for sale from 6pm till late, with main stage showing performances from Taiwan and local Taiwanese communities and talents. A talent quest will start in July so that winners will take the stage for Taiwan Festival this year.
